William Frederick Longstaff (1879‑1953) était un peintre australien célèbre pour ses œuvres commémoratives de la Première Guerre mondiale, notamment Menin Gate at Midnight. Après avoir servi et été blessé à Gallipoli, il voyagea en Égypte avec l’Australian Imperial Force avant de devenir artiste officiel de guerre, immortalisant le sacrifice des soldats australiens. Il vécut ensuite en Angleterre jusqu’à sa mort en 1953.

William Frederick Longstaff (1879‑1953) was an Australian painter renowned for his First World War memorial works, including Menin Gate at Midnight. After serving and being wounded at Gallipoli, he traveled to Egypt with the Australian Imperial Force before becoming an official war artist, capturing the sacrifice of Australian soldiers. He later lived in England until his death in 1953.
