🇫🇷 – Histoire de la faïencerie Mason's

Vers 1785, Miles Mason se tourne vers la fabrication de céramique après avoir vendu de la porcelaine orientale. Lorsque les importations chinoises cessent, il fonde sa propre production dans le Staffordshire. Son fils Charles brevète en 1813 l’« Ironstone China », une faïence solide et abordable qui rencontre un grand succès au XIXᵉ siècle. Décorée par transfert et peinture à la main, elle décline ensuite avec l’essor de la porcelaine fine. En 1861, la maison est reprise par Ashworth Brothers.

🇬🇧 – Mason’s Ironstone History

Around 1785, Miles Mason began producing pottery after trading Oriental porcelain. When Chinese imports ceased, he started his own manufacture in Staffordshire. His son Charles Mason patented “Ironstone China” in 1813 — a durable, affordable alternative to porcelain that became famous worldwide. Decorated with transfer prints and hand-painted details, Mason’s Ironstone thrived in the early 19th century before declining with the rise of bone china. The company was later acquired by Ashworth Brothers in 1861.
